KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Government has offered to help protect the rights and interest of landowners in Kampung Baru.

Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said they would set up a task force comprising land experts and town planners from the Selangor State Development Corporation and as well as provide monetary aid of RM50,000 to study the various issues pertaining to the development of the land.

“We will take all feedback and views from landowners and residents and will present their views to Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Ab Hakim Borhan. We hope that the mayor will keep an open mind as we are talking about the rights and interest of the Malays,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after attending a dialogue organised by the office of Titiwangsa MP Dr Lo’Lo’ Mohd Ghazali on Sunday. Over 300 landowners turned up for the event at Kelab Sultan Sulaiman.

Khalid said that the taskforce would work together with Dr Lo’Lo’s office to solve the problems of the Kampung Baru community.

“We will also look into the residents request for a Kampung Baru Development Corporation, whose members would include professionals who have a legitimate interest in the land,” he said.

Khalid said he felt an obligation to help the residents because Kampung Baru was once a part of Selangor.

He added that the gesture was not a political one but based on the need to protect the rights of the people as well to see Kampung Baru become the next golden triangle of Kuala Lumpur.

Acknowledging that many people had tried to develop Kampung Baru in the past and failed, Khalid was confident it could happen as long as the people were united and agreed to a common goal.

Meanwhile, Dr Lo’ Lo’ urged residents to make up their minds on whether to reject or accept the Draft Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 as the Aug 31 deadline for them to object to the plan was fast approaching.

“I will try and seek an extension from the mayor but you have to quickly make up your mind ,” she added.
